How to Protect Yourself and Your Community

We all play an important role in protecting our communities and families from COVID-19. Take these steps to help slow the spread of the virus:

  • Practice social distancing by keeping 6 feet between you and other people. Avoid hugs, handshakes and large groups.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze by coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue.
  • Stay home when you are sick.

To learn more about preventing COVID-19, please visit the CDC website.

If You Think You Are Sick

Call your primary care doctor. If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, or think you have been exposed to COVID-19, it is important to be pre-screened prior to seeking testing or treatment. When you call, you will be asked a series of questions about your symptoms, travel history and exposure to COVID-19 to determine if you should be tested for the virus.

The Florida Department of Health’s COVID-19 Call Center is now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-866-779-6121 or email your questions to COVID-19@flhealth.gov
